old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 39 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 39 | Does anyone have any suggestions where I can get a new exhaust system for my 1951 3100. The engine is actually a 1953, 235 ci. The truck is not road ready so I can not drive it to a Exhaust Shop. I have searched the on-line sites but have not found any complete systems. I have the old pipes and was thinking of bringing them to a muffler shop and having them replicated. Also, I have not been able to find a muffler, any suggestions? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | | | | | | Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 1,388 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 1,388 | Also, Waldrons. http://www.waldronexhaust.com/When I did the exhaust on my one ton, I just bought some straight pipe, and some mandrel bends. I cut out the parts of the curves I needed, and welded it up. Much like you see on all those PowerBlock shows, except cheap pipe. If you do this, make sure you grind the aluminizing back from where you weld, or it will contaminate the weld, and it could break later, and your tail pipe might fall off...... I learned this the hard way! I got to weld everything twice! Hahahaha. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 253 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 253 | I made an exhaust out of 1-1/2" PVC pipe and took it to my local exhaust & muffler guy to use as a pattern. He said bring it back if it needs tweaking but it fit perfect the first time. I got a good quality exhaust for a truck that wasn't driveable at the time.
