My 55 G.M.C. 2nd series ex Navy, fire dept, has a 2speed rear axle. There is nothing on this truck to indicate it came with one as built. The axle has a number on it CL1110 I wonder if anyone can tell me from this number what it is?(Ratio or Year) If this axle turnsout to be decent or in good usable shape, I'll want to look for the rest of the parts to make the truck a two speed. Any help at all is great. Thanks, Dave H.

Maybe a small switch on dash, left side, small, easy to throw back and forth, metal label around it? does it have the single vac line to it? OR, is it electric? Usually instructions on how to shift it in cab, maybe on sun-visor? I have one for my 55-1 COE, don't know models or anything. Check in Shop Manuals if you can find one. Gearing in these is very low. 6.** for high and 8.** for low ranges. Slow and Slower! Twin brake cylinders on each side, expensive, hard to find. I have a manual, I can maybe check if it goes to 2-ton or not, think it does. Models to 400 in it.

Dave, checked my manual. Found a model H-110 rear in a 1-1/2 ton and H-130 in 2-ton single speeds. These are GM corporate axles. They had Model 1350 or 16600 Eaton brand for 2-spd axles. Were vacumm shift with one hose to it or Electric with wires and switch at shifter. Info from a 47-54 GMC manual reprint. Usually these are said to be for all years, yet usually are for the 54 in this case, I'm thinking. 54 stuff should be mostly the same as 55 and up chassis.

GL Perry, Thank You for your help again. Every bit brings me closer to maybe solving this. I have found and ordered a manual for 55-59. Thanks again, Dave H.
