Hello all . I am new to this forum but not the old truck restoration hobby .
I'm a semi retired H.E. Mechanic working at a locale technical institute . Isuppose i'll start off with - I'm currently looking at purchasing a 1946 GMC that appealls to both my wife and myself . One question I have is about parts avalability and suppliers . Ifyou could advise me that would be great . Thanks

Red1946, welcome to the stovebolt. You'll find plenty of information and good folks here to help answer your questions. For best results be sure to try post in the most appropiate forum for maximum views and results. Not everyone visits here in the welcome centre when they sign in.

Good luck on your purchase and be sure to post some pics if you can. Look forward to seeing you around the garage.

...and you will find that there are other bolters in your area. If they don't check in here you will find them, or they will find you in the other forums.

Hi Red46, I live a ways south of you in Montana. Last June I purchased a 1941 GMC and have found quite a few parts suppliers for it. This website is invaluable as a resource! Hope you find your truck soon.

We don't hate anyone who likes old trucks! Mine aren't all Chevys either!

Howdy Red & Welcome --- you came to the right place. Folks here will help with just about any aspect of a build. And if you wind up with that 46 Jimmy, like it or not, you'll be family!

Best of luck and I hope it goes your way. I have a special place for the "War Years" trucks.

GMC parts can be a little harder to find than Chevy, but they seem to be available on E Bay if you are patient, or repops thru the suppliers mentioned previously. You will likely end up sourcing most stuff out of the US as not many suppliers north of the Border, and their prices are quite a bit higher. I was fortunate in that I live close to the Washington state border and can have stuff shipped to a depot in Washington, then run across and " import " it myself. First few things I bought were shipped via UPS and they just kill you with customs fees !

Welcome. There's a pretty good vendor in Penhold (just outside Red Deer)that has or can get anything any of the other vendors carries. If you want to buy from a U.S. vendor and they insist on shipping by UPS run away. Postal service is the best bet.
