Grigg, the meat will be here tomorrow eve. Good thing not sooner as we just got power back a couple of hours ago. I gave the generator in the mh a good excercise, 60 hours straight! Should be good to go for the confab if needed.

Right thread!

Excellent.

We're currently out of ice all over the county.
Anyone who is/can bring a cooler please also bring some ice. We'll be serving iced tea and water so plenty will be needed.

Thanks,
Grigg

Grigg,

Just got back from next door -- I have:

10 lbs of tomatoes
6 cantaloupes
2 watermelons
and some parts for a Mustang GT

Well, not that last part...

I'll load on as much ice as will fit in the coolers.

Grigg,

Do you have the truck movies? I lost/misplaced them. If you do have them and haven't converted them to disc maybe John/Billy/George has a VCR, I don't. They'd be fun to watch.

We're hard up for ice around here but I'll check over in the valley on the way over Thurs. AM.

Peaches Thursday morning on the way out of town.

Coolers, (2), Water dispenser, packed. Four folding chairs. Two pop-up shelters.

John, any chance I left a dark green canvas fold-up chair at your house this spring?

ETA Maury River 1100 Thursday.

Grigg, I promised I would bring the "ODSS traveling cooking vesel", but it isn't going to make the trip. Besides needing some minor repair that I didn't get around to, the only way to get it there would be inside the mh. With the two coolers and all the other junk, even if I took it apart (some), I don't think it will fit below. Hope this doesn't cause a problem. I do have a some table top job if we get desparate.
See you tomorrow.

Mr. President: No joy on the folding green canvas chair. Also, Billy and I are planning to rendezvous at White's Truck Stop (Exit 205 off of I-81 in Raphine) probably about 1100-ish (heavy on the "-ish" wink

Just a data point.

See you guys in a bit.... Hopefully ...

Just want to say thank you to Grigg, Acaicia, and Grigg's Mom and Dad for a great weekend. Despite the incredible heat and humidity, I think all in attendance had a great time. The food and hospitality were superb.
The ODSS was large and in charge at our first Diesel Confab!
Looking forward to attending again in the future.

Gents -- Another one for the books!

I'm currently uploading pics and vids to photobucket so stand by for that. In the meantime... Mega dittos to what Billy expressed in thanks to the Mullen family for hosting such a grand event.

I am always refreshed and renewed by my fellowship with my brothers... but I am glad to also add some new friends this weekend (I'm grooving to Jason's CD ...)

And between the attempt by Hambone to assassinate President Cosmo to the Emu attack... well, you are just going to have to wait for the pictures ...

Trip home was ... HOT and Miserable. Hambone, I will show you why we/YOU were so darn HOT .... giant hole in the exhaust right in front of the firewall ... mad

Anyway, good ride home, Billy, Hambone and Sweet! Fun Times as always. Between the heat, the bees, the gas, the emu and the snake ... well, you just had to be there...

Thanks my brothers! Link to pics soon

John

Brothers,

Well said Billy and John! During the course of the event I heard several favorable comments referring to the helpfulness of the Stovebolt group, I am so proud to be a Stovebolter!
The Diesel group was a wonderful book for me, each individual with his/her own chapter adding to a lifetime of experiences and a good story every last one. It seemed like whenever I came back from the garage with a water Doug, Sweet, Billy or John were engaged in conversation with a Diesel fan.

Grigg, Accacia, Mom and Dad created a classic event, well planned and executed.

John, can't wait for the pics. Billy, Doug, Sweet and John, great job sprucing up the 'sign island'.

Regards,

Brother Cosmo

After an almost 24 hour reprieve from the heat, I think I am finally starting to cool off.

I had a great time, thank you to the Mullen family for all the hard work they put into planning and executing this large event.

As a brother of the ODSS I was proud to lend a hand when I could. I could tell Grigg's diesel buddies were appreciative of our efforts.

I have to say, my brothers, we have one tough President. Over the weekend he sustained Emu trampoling, bee attacks, and friendly fire by way of gassing. Through it all he kept a cool head and lead the ODSS with style....

Here are some videos I took on the convoy home:

Thanks to all for the help. The ODSS really made the show a success!
Some of the many things I really appreciated is y'all: bringing food fixings, fixing it, ice, straightening out the garage, trimming around the edges, parking cars, directing attendees, erecting and taking down the tent, and setting up the movie screen and equipment. As well as the usual ODSS camaraderie, sure couldn't have done it all without you.

It's been a long hot week, I'm ready for a break,

Grigg

Man, tough going back to work, I would rather be working traffic in Rockbridge Baths Va. and giving the power crews the thumbs up as they pass any day!

Billy, The kudo's must go to Cosmo for most of the great and stunning still photography that truly captured the human spirit and drama that was the diesel confab, as well as to Hambone for the soul-stirring cinematography.

Yes nice shots and great videos.

For years I was putting up with the "Sweet Pass". He rolls by and then stomps the gas to blast you with that obnoxious exhaust and then blows his too loud horn. Glad to see someone else on the receiving end of that for a change...

Soul stirring cinemaphotography? I characterize it as bone jarring, heat absorbing and ear piercing. Not sure how I survived in biggy D on such A hot day.
As for the rest: the emu encounter was a security exercise. Red cell. Billys parking/security detail was not prepared. The president was never in any danger by the gassing. The red cell injects were closely monitored. However, many vulnerabilities were ided. And how inviting was the presidential security detail to let a spy infiltrate to inner circle. Claimed to be a artist, musician, wrencher as well as a traveling truck driver. If he was not all these things and a nice guy to boot, he might have presented a threat to the entire detail.
And do not believe the forthcoming fiction how hbone monkey wrenched griggs project motor. I did not throw rocks in his fuel pump(s). And my gas cans were nowhere to be seen.
Grigg, thanks for everything. When you finish the chairlift to the river, I will draft the test plan and execute the test.

HB, I think the heat has gotten to you, either that or it was the lack of proper refrigeration of your beverages all weekend.
I admit to my lack of preparation, I mean, I expected a Harley or two to roll by, the occasional power crew hurrying to the next job, the arrival of a diesel conversion now and then and your typical assortment of mini vans but I never expected a 5 foot tall (ok, maybe at full alert...) emu to come sauntering up to my post. So, guilty as charged, not prepared for emu invasion.
Please counted me in for the Maury River Chair Lift operation when complete.............just as long as there are no bees!

You bunch of nattering Nancys ... Bees... I'll handle the bees next time. Bring 'em on, I say!

And I'd like to know by what criteria Hambone counts the Emu Attack Response as a "failure." Heck, I submit that it was among the ODSS' finest moments! There we were, the ODSS parking sub-committee (part of the overall ODSS Beer Drinking Caucus), calmly and semi-alertly manning our posts (whilst other ODSS members were SCREWING OFF in an Unauthorized Absence status, I might add...) when all of a suddent, we were inundated by arriving diesel trucks and trailers, passers by, gawkers, heavy Maury River Road traffic, poison ivy vines and a spousal phone call. And at the very crescendo of said action, the Emu launches it's sudden, vicious and predatory attack -- singling out Billy for it's cold, calculating assault (or it might have been love ...)...

When the dust settled:

1. All arriving vehicles were safely and quickly marshalled, unloaded and parked;

2. All traffic was safely and efficiently ... (well, safely, anyway ) routed;

3. No injuries or property damage sustained

4. Emu threat was effectively neutralized and Emu dispatched upon it's way with no harm either to itself or to Billy's ... um .. manhood;

5. And, Spousal phonecon resolved with associated marriage intact.

At NO point, was POTODSS ever directly threatened by the Emu.

So how can you call it a failure??? I think, rather than ONCE AGAIN suffer your slings and arrows, Billy and I should be lauded and commended for our quick thinking, prompt response, courteous (to both man and emu) service and general savois faire/sang froid in dealing with said event.

Personally, I think HB is trying to divert our attentions away from *HIS* unsuccessful assasination attempt on POTODSS ... Billy, you saw the snake first, right? And where was HB?? Upstream or between you and the snake? Upstream, right? I think he was trying to herd you into the path of his reptilian partner ...

Oh (relights cigar) just one more thing ... Mr. Hambone -- you weren't even there for the Emu attack, yet you seem to know alot about it ... In cahoots with the emu, TOO????

Wow ... Maybe POTODSS wasn't the intended target of the submarine gas attack ... maybe he only got in the way ... Maybe ... Billy ... was ... his ... target!!!!!!

Harrumph!

Milliman, you may be on to something here especially since the accused has quite a bit more experience with airflow than than he does with water current. President Cosmo could very easily been the victom of a slight miscalculation by ol fly boy. And, now that you mention it, I do believe HB put me between him and Mr. No Shoulders....
I know how to solve any future threats, set the frigerator to cold, more Bud Light and hot water in the shower.
I just can't figure out how he worked the bees into it.....

A corncob pipe would have completed the ensemble nicely.

Laugh all you want, but it was pretty cool under that thing and I almost didn't give it back wink After all, *I* didn't have to look at me ...
