Can some look at these photos and tell me just which fuel pump I have? My engine is a 1954 6 cyl, 235 and I have a fuel pump leak and must replace but in catalogs notice a number of different options.
No wiper option.
Can I get a rebuild kit?

Thanks for any help guys!!!!!

It is a replacement single-action fuel pump. They are readily available from most vendors. I think you would want a 52-57 fuel pump.

Chevs of the 40s and some other vendors sell rebuild kits.

A dual-action fuel pump was optional. It allowed the original standard vacuum wipers to work better.

Now, while we are speaking of fuel pumps, what's the difference between this 52-57, and a pre 52 pump? Just the glass bowl?

Any possibility the gasket is leaking?

Not sure about the brand of fuel pump you have. Looks exactly like the one that was on my '54 when I bought the truck.

The '29-'54 MPC defines the fuel pump as Group #3.900, Part #5592627, "(angle outlet) (AC-9798 or AC-9832)" The Factory Assembly Manual shows part number #1539832.

Later model AC-9798 pumps were metal top pumps like yours. Don't know if they were originally glass bowl top like the one shown in the Factory Assembly Manual. Also don't know if AC-9832 was glass or metal top. The pump was changed to a metal top in 1955.

The in and out fuel line ports on the pump are angled 20deg to the block, as are yours. The ports were first angled in 1952.

My metal top pump was working fine, but I wanted a glass bowl fuel pump. So I bolted the top and bowl from a reproduction glass bowl pump onto the base of my metal top pump. Works perfectly. The glass bowl pump had the wrong in/out ports and did not work on my engine. After I screwed it onto the metal-top base, the in/out ports were angled the correct 20deg.

Christopher,

You asked your question while I was typing my reply to BruceO.

GM sold a 20-deg fitting to allow the newer pump to be used on older trucks that had the in/out ports parallel to the block.
Group #3.900 Part #3707972

Don't know if there were internal changes. A local shop installed the reproduction (parallel port) pump on my '54 235. They told me that it didn't work. I don't know if it was a defective pump, defective installation, or the wrong pump.

I bought the pump from the old Chevy Duty (now Classic Parts) in 1999. Didn't put it on until 2011. Chevy Duty item #82-232, "Glass Bowl Type Fuel Pump 47-54" $34.95. The in/out ports were parallel to the block. As I noted, the ports were angled 20 deg to the block after I attached the glass bowl top to the old metal-top pump.

I checked the Classic Parts site. Glass bowl pump #82-232 that was listed for 47-54 in 1999 is now listed for 37-51 $64.95. Classic Parts pump #82-212 is listed for 52-57, $54.95. It has a metal top.

1952 pass started side motor mounts. The pump in and out positions were changed to clear the mount.

I get it now. That's timely for me. Today at the swapmeet, I bought an NOS fuel pump, labeled 37-51 I think, for $10. Hussah for me!!

I find these sort of details are fascinating.
