I'm putting the electrical back together in my truck and I've converted it all over to 12V. I'm planning to run a gen and VR just like original, but 12V. Does anyone have the part numbers of the 12V gen and VR I need as well as where I might be able to find them?
Second, how the heck does the horn button work? There's a ratty looking wire that goes up into the column, but what does it hook to and how do I take it all apart to replace it? Thanks in advance..

for the gen and reg, if you get the units for a '56 and up truck you should be good - if you have any auto electric shops around check with them, otherwise a good parts store should be able to get them, like NAPA [make sure you get the ignition resistor or internally resisted 12V coil too] .... expect to spend a bundle buying new ones, if you prefer cheaper, try a post in the parts wanted

the wire will go up to the bearing mast

Remove the bearing from the column and check the condition of the wire. You may be able to splice a good wire to it.

Thanks guys, that's what I was looking for... How does the bearing come out of the top of the column?

Remove your steering wheel to this point
...pic...

I was able to pry mine out with a thin blade screwdriver working from side to side.

Pry it up,
remember to remove the clamp at the bottom of the mast

What do you mean about removing the clamp at the bottom of the mast? Sorry if I'm missing something obvious..

on my truck there is a small wire clamp held by one screw where the horn wire exits the mast at the bottom.

I dont have a good pic but if you look at where the orange wire exits the mast in this pic

Make sure you pull a string or wire into the mast (from bottom) when you pull out the bearing. Then, use this temporary wire to pull in the new wire when reinstalling the mast bearing.
