Most dwell problems are caused by worn distributor cam lobes and/or bad shaft bushings, but the dwell does not change much like it does on a Ford distributor. On Fords, the single point pivot system at the breaker plate results in a slight dwell change as the vacuum advance moves. Not so on GM distributors. Jerry

This is my first time setting the point gap using a dwell meter. Up until now I have always set them with a feeler gage and called it good enough. I had initially done that with this motor and today when I checked it with the meter I found the gap to be too wide and the dwell to be about 10 degrees off so it was fun for me to get it spot on with the meter. I should have got a tach and dwell meter long ago!
