We have a 1954 1/2 ton.Where the torque tube goes into the rear end there is a very bad leak.It appears that someone tried to solder it to stop the leak which did not work.Is there anything you folks could recommend that i could try to stop this leak?

thank you jon

Are you talking about where the tube goes into the cast part?

If it is leaking there the tube has started working loose in the housing,I have seen this before.
In that case I would recommend welding all the way around the spot where the tube enters the housing.

With it welded you can then use silicone, JB weld or your choice of sealer on the rivets.

In most of the 3 speed trans there is a gasket, felt seal and a compression seal. At the point where the tube enters the trans is a rubber gasket this can be changed (compression)There is also a felt type gasket at the ball where it flexes. It will not stop leaking until it properly sealed. If welded or epoxy is applied it will eventually fail and leak. This is a flex joint and must be repaired properly for longevity and dependability. It will leak again shortly if not done correctly. Even with new seals these will have a drip once in a while but nothing that's not normal..
