HI All,

Anyone know where to get a Drive line Carrier Bearing for 3 ton big bolts.

I need to find either someone that can replace the rubber insert or a new carrier bearing for my 1952 GMC 450-30 drive line.

The bearing is still good, but the rubber is getting hard and brittle.

I am replacing all the u-joint while I am replacing the clutch, figured to do the complete drive line while I have it all apart.

Thanx
GMCPic

Contact your local BIG truck drive-line/suspension shop, they should be able to help.

Hy GMCPic, unfortunately the master parts book only lists the bearing, or the complete kit, the p/n for the kit is 2222891 with a five speed trans.. I tried crossing that number at Napa, but nothing came up, hope that helps.

Hy GMCPic, more research has unearthed the following, o.e.m. p/n 2222891 = Sealed Power p/n B-PBS10 = Napa p/n BRG HB88508 $67.49. That is the whole assembly, and it may not be the same height as the original, if it's shorter you can make some spacer plates to make it be the same installed height, hope that helps.

Center bearings are not that different today than they were 60 years ago. If you can find a match up on the ID of the bearing, you can easily make it fit. The old catalogs list the cushion and the bearing separately. They are now sold as an assembly and they are listed as a center bearing. A carrier bearing is in the third member.

Well O'Reilly's has the rubber insert listed separately for $15.00 and is listed as a drive line center support bearing.

They used to be called a drive line carrier bearings. Some few years ago I worked on trucks like this when they were new.

Been tinkering with cars, trucks, motorcycles and engines since I was 10 years old. Had my first Harley when I was 12, it was a "Harley Hummer". Had my first car before I had a drivers license.

Sometimes terminology changes over time.

Thanks for the info keep it coming.

Hy GMCPic, well how about sharing the O'Reilly's part number for the rubber element with the rest of us so that we might also take advantage of the fact that the element can be purchased separately?

OK Guys every Drive line center support bearing I have looked at for the last 2 days was the wrong bearing hanger/support.

NAPA HB88508 and HB88509 are the wrong style for my truck.

The P/N at O'Reilly's is the same as NAPA.

So as advised...I went to my local drive live shop. About 1 mile from my house it turns out.

So today after lunch I went to the local shop. I Walk in an the owner took one look and knew what I had. He called it an early to mid 50s GM product. Ahhh my heart soared someone knew what I had. By 5:30 tonight I had a rebuilt drive line support bearing. $80.00, Vern, that's the owner took 2 different bearings off the shelf and made one good bearing for me...new ball bearing and new rubber cushion insert, new spacer and shims.

The new Drive shaft center support bearing is now back on the drive line. Now all I need is my new rebuilt clutch and pressure plate which I am told will be here tomorrow afternoon.

My hanger bearing is not made of sheet metal, but is a heavy casting with the bearing floating in a rubber cushion (Grommet)insert. I was informed it is called a "Rubber Grommet Mounted Ball Bearing".

Federal Bearing which made the bearing for GMC went out of business in 1973, Schwartz Bearing took them over which then stopped making auto OEM parts in 1981.

I kept the old cushion with hopes of finding some way of making new ones.

The cushion P/N 2016507, the bearing is Federal Bearing Co. P/N FS88508

If anyone is interested here is the info for:

Driveline Specialist of Paradise
Owner: Vern
5864 Clark Road
Paradise CA 95969
Phone: (530)877-1441
FAX: (530)877-7799

He has been at it for 36 years and knows his stuff.

Thanks all for the help.

GMCPic
