Searched the archive and came across many posts on this topic.

I need to remove the headlight switch on my '56 3600. The spring loaded button is on the same side as all the connections, and is actually right in the middle of 'em. I pushed the button and pulled the plunger out but it didn't come out. Do I need to "apply more force"? or is there another trick I'm missing.

The side opposite the connections is bare.

The button is on the side toward the drivers door. My original has connections on all sides. May have to jiggle the knob back and forth while depressing the button but it should come out.

not - the button is a little mushroom top pin-like thing that's on the top of the switch w/ a tiny spring around it, while the wires are on bottom where ya can see'em if ya poke yer head under there - about center of switch body, and hurts the fingertip to push it hard - knob rod has a flat on one side that may have to line up, so try turning, and push pin w/ knob in off position, then yank knob out - sometimes a bit of corrosion or something - if yours is different it's non-original - no advice available here!!

You have to pull the switch knob out to the headlight position ... THEN push the spring-loaded button ... and then pull the knob the rest of the way out.

I went nuts with mine until I made a phone call. That knob will NOT come out until you go by the above procedure.

Alan...you are right. I had to pull it out part way and then push the mushroomed shaped button located between all the connections .
