on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 84 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 84 | I just switched the tail lights on my '51 half ton. The guy I bought it from had round, plastic trailer lights on it. I am looking for ideas for the wiring from the light to the frame. I bought the stainless conduit from Classic Parts but I think it is a generic part and it doesn't really work. Any suggestions on a visually pleasing way to run the wiring? Thanks.

The old trailer lights were mounted on shop-made brackets, so you need new mounting brackets, too. I believe that the wires from the '51 tail lights to the clip on the frame ran through black cloth wire loom. Other forum members can tell you how the loom was attached to the light socket boot. A lot of people use chrome plated or stainless fancy loom to cover the tail light wires. I prefer the original look, but that's just me. The right tail light installation shown in the '51 Accessories Installation Manual is actually a separate turn signal lamp. A separate turn signal lamp is also used on the left side. So, you will probably do better following the '47-'54 Factory Assembly Manual to install the left light. And follow the '54 Accessories Installation Manual to install the right light and to route the wires for left and right lights. Note the location of wiring clips on the frame and on the mounting brackets. > '51 tail light - glass lens, chrome bezel, black housing> Black wire loom - cloth - various diameters> Left tail light and bracket, '47-'54 Factory Assembly Manual> Right tail light and bracket '54 Accessories Installation Manual> Right tail light and bracket; Left & Right wire routing '54 Accessories Installation Manual> Figure #197 - 1951 Accessories Installation Manual with separate turn signal lamp- Lonnie
