Each took from 15 to 20 pumps before grease began to ooze from the rear of the "cap" (for lack of a better word) holding the fitting.
Is that normal or do I have some kind of seal that is kaputt after 43 years? | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | This is normal. You grease the joints till the grease starts comeing out or the seal swells like on a tie rod end. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 112 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 112 | | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 112 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 112 | George, neither of the right upper control arm bushings oozed grease when I hit them. And it took VERY little grease to have them full and resistant to more. I've just replaced all 8 control arm zerk fittings, so it's not those.
Any idea what's up?

Remove the fitting & poke around with an awl. Spray some penitrant in the hole & put the fitting back in. Keep pressure on the fitting till some comes out. They say money can't buy happiness. Be careful not to burn the rubber seals. | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 112 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 112 | | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 112 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 112 | Waldo, not until last night when I scraped away several millimeters of caked greasy dirt did I even know there were rubber seals under there...thanks! | | |
