| | | | Joined: Jul 2010 Posts: 96 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2010 Posts: 96 | My LWB 55 series ll has a two piece driveshaft with a middle bearing. I was under my truck yesterday and noticed that what appears to be a deflector in front of the middle bearing on the front shaft is pretty banged up. It seems that whoever replaced the center bearing a few years ago damaged it when pressing the new bearing onto the shaft.
The deflector is still there but there is at least an inch of space between it and the bearing. I doubt that it functions as a dust deflector anymore.
It doesn't look as if it can be removed. It appears to be welded to the driveshaft.
Is this a problem?
Could it be the source of a vibration that I feel at certain speeds?
Should I try to remove what's left of it?
Appreciate any and all replies.

It isn't unusual to see what you describe but I doubt it is the source of your vibration. More likely the rear shaft is out of phase on the midship stub with the front joint. Check that first and if it is then align it by rotating the slip yoke on the stub. | | |
