I'm trying to restore what I think  is a 1953 GMC truck and I'm having
dificulty finding the right gages for this truck. the metal dash board has
a couple
of holes that are rectagular and I found a couple of people that can sell
me
the gages but they are round and this people asure me that this are the
right
gages for a 1953 GMC so I'm not sure what I have can you may be send me
pictures
of a 1953 GMC dash board and the list of parts that go on the dash board?
or
may be send me pictures of the dash board that I described with the
rectangular holes.
I will be very greatfull.
thanks

That sounds like a '54 dash. You got a big curved windshield to go with it?

edit: Here\'s a link to the Kook\'s photo of a \'54 dash.

Does your truck have a split windshield or a single piece windshield?

One went through your area on a trailer about a week ago grin
I may be able to help if you give me a few days.

Luke, are you parting out "my" truck? LOL! grin

Angi, the oil pressure and water temp gauges are mechanical; the oil line connects to a fitting on the driver's side of the crankcase and the water temp line is a closed capillary tube that screws into the cylinder head. Be careful with the capillary tube to the temp gauge, I got a kink in mine and the genie inside got away. Now the gauge doesn't work at all.

Ammeter and fuel are the only gauges that need electricity, so check under the dash to see if there are leads for them. If the wires have been cut, I think you'll be better off getting a new wiring harness from one of the vendors rather than patching a bunch of old bits together (definately get a new harness if the insulation is rotten).

Angi, I am sure you figured out by now that you have a 54 or later, not a 53. Might make your search for guages easier
