What are my choices? Should I replace the intake too? | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 | The automotive machine shop where I worked part time for several years had a BIG belt sander, with a belt over a foot wide and a bed four feet long. It came in very handy for flattening out warped manifolds and other parts that needed to have gasket surfaces trued up over a wide area. It's been debated several times whether to leave the intake and exhaust bolted together during such a procedure. I prefer to loosen the bolts slightly to let the manifolds find their closest common plane, then hit the belt sander with the complete assembly. Jerry

Its best to find a good used one from a 230 or 250. They are usually good. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. If resurfaced separate from each other, they will be out of plane, and will always leak. (Several past experiences taught me this lesson).
The older I get, I only want to work on older rigs.

You have to watch for the throttle linkage. There are variations in them. The early exhaust flange had 2 studs & the later ones had 3. You can use either if you changa the flange on the pipe. This takes the guess work out.... | | |
