The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Making a Stovebolt Bed bed crossmember location????

Need some help with where cross member rails should be. I have three rails. One clearly goes at the very front of the bed. I have two sets of holes near the rear, to the rear of the axle. They are only 4 inches apart. So there is no cross member for nearly 6 feet.

The dilemma is there are no original holes in the frame in the front half?

So does anyone have a picture or guidance on where the cross members should go?

What model truck are you refering to?

Sorry 52 chevy 3100. I did read in one thread that one of the cross memebrs floats and is not connected to frame. This makes some sense since there are no fram holes. Denis

the rear-most cross sill is part of the box it-self,and bolts into the sides,only rubber pads here.Moving forward,the next cross sill is just behind the rear wheels.It has wooden blocks under it.The next is just in front of the rear wheels.No blocks here.

Thanks the one forward of the wheels w/o blocks is it floating? I have no holes in the frame forward of the wheels. Thanks, Denis

Me too. I received my '50 bed in a "disassembled" condition. I have been trying to figure out how the bed mounts, just by looking at the pieces. Great series of pictures.

Only questions I have are:

* Dimensions of wood blocks?
* Where to acquire replacement rails (mine are pretty rusty)?

The blocks for a 50 are 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 x 2 1/4

Someone else may be able to advise on where to purchase replacement rails.

The blocks are made of Alder at least the ones you get from the vendors. I am unsure if that was the original composition. The rails are available from many of the vendors.

Thanks to Dads50 and Brad. I was just out in the garage wracking my brain (again) trying to figure it out. I hadn't realized that the rear most cross member was actually cantalivered over the rear of the frame rails. referring to the pics again, it all starts to make sense.

And Dad, now that I have the dimensions for the "wood" blocks, I can really get moving on that portion of the project. Special thanks!
