3100 1953 panel, with 3 on the Colum. 235ci engine.

Blime where to start!,thanks to your help I managed to change my ring gear and pinion on the flywheel and no more horrible grinding.

While in there I changed out the clutch, and spring plate and bearing. Put it all back together. Have done 200 + miles and fine….

Now im grinding between 2-3rd? and also getting a gulping sound when I put it into 1st or reverse?

When I changed the above, all I did to gearbox was remove it have a quick look inside..corners of some gears where a little chipped..and filled it up with oil.

All weekend and again today ive played with it all. Including adjusting the clutch…resetting the colum change. ( when I had the transmition out I was carful to not change or move the control rods. Rebuilt the “H” control box

Few things ive looked at…have a small amount of oil in the bottom of the flywheel housing…that has gently flicked around the belhousing. Its been really hot in the uk for a week and my trucks been cooking in around 30,oc.

Im lost as to what to look at. ? could it be the clutch or the gearbox? Could my clutch do this.? When driving along in 2nd you can see the colum change leaver sometimes picking up or riding a gear (it gudders?) god I don’t know, ive looked over the forum for idea and am knackered and feel like the gearbox is stuffed? And have to come out again.?

The old girl if I ever stopped in 3rd would get stuck..but I lived happy with that…now it does the same in 2nd?

Sounds like a linkage adjustment is needed.

hi Tom, ive done the linkages 3 times now. and still no better, late last night i had another look inside the side pannel of the Transmission, i have another Transmition cover with a better looking 2-3rd shifter folk so fitted that.(With the complete cover?) now with the engine not running. the box shifted fine in all gears.so i filled it up and took her out.

set out up the road, and grinding noises coming from the transmission in 2nd gear. when i push the clutch in they go. ive tryed using the colum shift to move it around just slightly in 2nd gear to see if adjustment could have been too much or too little but makes no difference. ive also re adjusted the rods that move the shifter shaft to see if that get ride of the noise but no joy.

when i put my foot from no gas to full gas you can feel alot of play coming or whipping threw the drive

i have rechecked the Steering Column. double checked that the upper and lower control shafts are square in the (two bolt holding assembly in the cab) put new bushes in the outer leaves too.

checked and checked the gearshift lever, its horizontal position and H box alignment

thing is when i only changed the clutch i did nothing to the transmission or the linkages? just put it all back in? have used it with no problem for a few 100 miles..then hell starts? could it be internals of the transmission? any clues.. my refference material and only help is you lot and the truck Manual. ;-(
