First trip out ( tires are four years old) with radial tires and noticed a side to side shake around 37 to 40 mph. Above and below that nothing. Not real bad but you can definately feel it. Tire pressure is ok. Does it sound like a bad tire (belt)?

Almost sounds more like loose lugnuts. Generally, a belt separation will be felt at all speeds.

Check your shocks. I had a 'wobble' on my '38. I replaced the king pins & checked everything for tight. All checked out good but the 'wobble' was still there. I fiddled with air pressure in the tires but no change. I finally put new shocks on and the 'wobble' went away. It felt like a wobble (side to side shake) rather than a bounce as you would expect from bad shocks but the new tube style shocks fixed the problem for me.
