My 52 chevy and my 53 GMC have inserts, 1/4X20 screws.You can get the captive nuts at a Ace Hardware the one by my house carrys them or you can order from McMaster Carr.You will have to drill out the old ones to whatever size the new ones need.
Is there any way you could re tap the holes or are they rusted out? i had about the same problem on the 50 truck. Two of the holes on the passenger door were messed up. So I used a tap to re thread the holes
