I have a 55 2nd that has a 350 engine. It currently has the chicken leg engine mounts in the front of the engine and the bellhousing mounts in the rear. I would like to remove the front mounts to be able to mount the alternator down low to give a cleaner engine compartment. Which of the replacement mounts would be the best?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each. Also, can I keep the bellhousing mounts or should I remove them and switch to a transmission crossmember? Thanks in advance.

I believe the type from Ecklers [which all the vendors carry, shop for price] will give you a stronger setup, adding a full cross member - also might be less interference with the e-brake mechanism .... and you don't need the trans cross member unless you go to an automatic

Chassis Engineering recommends a crossmember-style front engine mount for frames wider that 25 inches (link). Your TF frame is 34 inches wide. The crossmember style mount will help to avoid frame twisting.

I used a tubular style mount to fit a 455 Buick in my panel truck.

I modified a tube mount that was for a 460 Ford in a F100 truck!
It allowed a nice low, set back & I was able to use the stock cast iron
exhaust manifolds, too.

As the others here have stated ... it adds a bit of additional stiffness to the frame; esp. when putting in one of these torque monsters.
