The slider leaks and rattles and I want to replace it with a solid piece of glass and thats where the confusion begins. Civilian late 40's rear windows as far as I know just uses a rubber gasket to mount it not the more elaborate bolt system I have. I've seen pictures here in the gallery of the solid glass / 14 bolt frame system on a 40 GMC. My question is what years was the bolt frame used and is it possible to use the later forties gasket instead of it? Are the earlier frame pieces and gaskets available as repops?

Don't know if a gasket would work on something designed for the separate frame. The earlier frames come up on Ebay from time to time. I got a replacement gasket from Jim Carter, which requires a joint in it. When I replaced my glass, I was happy to find the original one piece gasket was still good, so I re-used it. And, of course, glass is readily available, too. Good luck!

If so, I would think an original or repop exterior bezel and rubber gasket may work in place of the one you have. The rubber gasket can be cut to length, butt jointed, and glued with a " superglue " type product ( Steeles Rubber can give you the glue spec. ) | | | | Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 253 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 253 | Thank you both! I guess I won't know for sure what I have until I pull the frame off but a least now I'll know what parts to use when I find out what is under it.
