Hi Guys, I bought a 1949 Chevy 3800. It has the long bed, but not the 9 foot. I thought it was the 216 but after reading the posts I think it may have been replaced with a ? 235? The casting numbers
I read are 0541765 F54X. It has a 4 bolt valve cover, no oil filter, 6 volt wiring. So far it's a great driver, starts first time every time, runs smooth, shifts smooth. I couldn't be happier but I would like to tune it up but don't know what parts I need unless they are all close enough. I'm not a mechanic yet but want to learn to do my own.

on the drivers side the casting number reads: 3835913 under this is GM 21. The engine is painted blue.
On the passenger side in front of the coil are the numbers cast in: 16B 913

X= 235 with std clutch, 3100 1/2 ton

Thanks for the quick answer. What do you think the lubrication type would be? I'll take this new information and revisit the forum looking for the particulars.

This is a full pressure engine. It will not be drilled to supply oil for hydraulic lifters. Trucks used solid lifters.
