Hello,

I am in the process of rebuilding my 1956 235, and I have an extra part. This collar/spacer came in the box of used parts, and I'm not sure where it goes. It has a key hole, so I assume it goes on the crank somewhere. Any ideas?

Also, it looks like the center of my balancer is rusted. Are there supposed to be cuts through to the front? Do I need a new one?

Thanks for all the help,

Vince

that piece goes on the crankshaft, it,s an oil slinger. Get a shop manual or a motors manual and look through it. you will see were it goes.

The balancer looks rusty but it does not look too bad.

What are your referring to as "cuts through to the front"?

Mine is a 1957 235, and yeah... the center of the balancer does actually look a bit off.

Is it possible someone tried to get the balancer off without a puller and caused that? I know that in my ignorance when I was first trying to remove my balancer, I ended up cutting deep inserts into the side of mine on accident, just like that. I ended up getting a new one. If the cuts looks to be caused by a chisel or something like that, and it worries you, you might want to consider a new one. I got mine for fairly cheap.

I have that same part. So that's an oil slinger and that's where it goes. Got to love this site.
Thanks

The notches on the center hole of the balancer are for the hand crank to insert into.
