The new wiring harness I have for my truck does not seem like the easiest thing to install, nor does it seem complete.

The harness is not all in one piece. There is a main harness, a front light harness and a rear light harness. Both light harnesses do not have the light ends attached and the instructions are very poor. The instructions make reference to numbers but the wires do not have one numbers on them.

Has anyone had a more positive experience with a wiring harness and can recommend a better brand/manufacturer?

I don't know where you got that harness, but my cheap $100 kit from Chevy Duty has ends and numbers. Get the grommets if you haven't already, or the sheetmetal will cut the insulation.

If you're willing to name the source, it will act as a warning to others.

I have heard good things about the ChevyDuty harness that Hedgehog mentioned, there are also several companies that make "street rod" harnesses with various circuits. Run a search on the archives, there was a recent discussion on the quality of various wiring harnesses.

Personally, I'm going to make my own harness, I can get any color wire with any color stripe from Waytek. It isn't the cheapest way to go, but since I'm building a TBI fuel-injected 250 for my truck, the harness is going to be weird.

Bought mine from Chevy Duty and after a little time and a couple of beers figuring out their number scheme, it went like clockwork. The harness usually does come in a few parts. One which runs from the fuse block to the front connections, one which connects through a modular plug under the gas tank area to the rear connections and the main harness from the fuse block to the under dash area. Numbers on the wires coincide with the end connection. Not too bad to do and reasonably priced.

Blaine, the task force harness is sorta like that - theres 3 or 4 sections [factory design] and they usually don't have the back light pigtails cause of the different length trucks, and the headlight wires are a seperate pc from the inner fender to the bucket - ya didn't say where ya got it, but I've gotten'em from 3 different places and they've all been similar but worked well - I'll recommend Scotts Super Trucks for their location and prices - haven't had any prob w/ their quality

My harness did come from Scott's and I plan to call them later today for hints, etc. Maybe I got a bad harness without the numbers?

I am fishing for information to find out if there are better harnesses!

never got one from scotts, but even w/o numbers, should be the same color code as on the shop manual wiring diagram, and wires should all lay "right where they belong" when ya have the bundles basicly in position - hard to make the wires fit to the wrong place cause there's no xtra length.

dug out the latest one I got [golden state it sez] and it does have numbers on it - there's 5 seperate sections to this one, but all the colors are as factory, and the instructions include copies of the assembly manual pages

if ya can't get satisfaction from scotts, lemme kno and I'll scan these for ya

Talked with Scott's, yes the wires should have numbers on them. I think exchanging for a proper harness should help with the install.
