For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 217 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 217 | Going to replace the clutch assembly on my 46 216 1/2t. It has the TT attached to a 4 speed. Once I draw the ball cover off and slide it back, does the pilot shaft slide out of the yoke so I can move the TT out of the way? Or do I have to unbolt the covers off the trundle bearings and separate the u joint? It is not really clear in my shop manual. Thanks Rick... | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,101 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,101 | Hy elmer46, yes on the trucks that the torque tube goes right up to the tranny, you have to disassemble the "U" joint to move the torque tube out of the way, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 835 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 835 | Put a bottle jack under the tube so that you relieve the pressure on the ujoint. Take the joint apart, and you should be able to slide the yoke back and then lower the tube.
