i have a 93 g.m.c. i ton dually, 454, auto, loaded. horn, brakelights and 4 way flashers don't work. replaced brakelight switch, still no brakelights. power to both sides of fuse. any idea?
oh yeah--got turns signals back up, and tail lights--everything else works

What do the horn, the four ways and the turn signals have in common?

Did you check or repalce the horn relay??

What about the hazzard flasher??

OR the Directional switch in the steering column??

kinda figure it's a ground thing--thing is i can't find any wiring diagrams in the book that matches this particular truck. did the horn relay thing---notta----i always did say grounds were harder than positive shorts.

Koolcar,all those items are common to the wiring harness that feeds down the steering column and plugs in somewhere under the dash.There also may be a problem in the directional switch,as that controls brake lights, turn and 4 ways.

Have you found the problem yet?

Saw a problem similar to this on a Dodge truck. The wiring ran on the bottom side of the column inside the plastic cover. There was a electrical connector about 6" below the wheel which made it nice to work on if you had to pull the column apart. The harness had been put in without enought slack. The tilt-wheel had been moved all the way to the top and the connector simply unplugged itself.

Dave, don't you just "love" the new wiring diagrams GM puts out? They are worthless and very hard to follow. They only show one circuit at a time and not whole schematic like old ones. Don't show connector plugs anymore either.

Did you check the Bulbs? maybe messing with stuff blew them or? The tailight housings are plastic and bolt in from bed side, and require a seperate ground wire be attached, check that for rust.

Got that truck ready to pick-up yet? Sure been crappy lately, BUT, was nice yesterday! Huh?? :p

most folks have told me the turn signal switch is bad. bought one today. got the horn to work by knocking the sh@t out of it. the truck is an ex n.h.r.a. crash rescue truck--not much need for a horn since it was new. everyone tells me this is a real nasty job--gotaa take the harness apart, not looking forward to it.

gary, ain't got to the truck yet---remember i lived in texas, and chilly to you is freezing to me--got it on my "to do" list. will let u know.

This is an easy one, truck is too darn new, too many wires. get an older truck and life will be good.

Just a thought..... did GMC still use + ground in '93 ??

DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE POS GROUND---AND I AIN'T GONNA FIGURE IT OUT FROM P O S WIRING MANUALS! AS FAR AS THE TRUCK BEING TOO NEW-----------I COULDN'T AGREE MORE. GIVE ME THE OLD HELD ON WITH A HOSE CLAMP SIGNAL-STAT SWITCH AND DIMMER ON THE FLOOR ANYTIME!!

If you have a tilt wheel, it will be more of a pain,but not too bad if you can borrow the correct tools to do the job and give it a little patience.

retro-fitted to a floor mount dimmer switch.
During the study they discovered that 80% of all accidents were caused by Blondes getting their foot caught in the steering wheel when operating the dimmer switch.
