All the parking brake parts on my 64 C50 are missing, and I bought a lever and band assembly sight unseen.It has the band that goes around the outside of the drum. From searching this site, it looks like mine is set up for the brake that has 2 shoes that contact on the bottom of the drum. Was wondering if maybe I could adapt the setup I just bought, or should I look for the other style?

Hy audey, depending on which transmission you have, you may be able to find the drum to fit your already purchased exterior band brake, good luck.

Hi 3B, the truck has a 4 speed transmission. So, the only thing I need to do is find another drum to make this work?

Hy audey, you will need the brackets that support/hold the parking brake band, they are usually cast into the rear bearing retainer of the transmission. You will also need the linkage from the lever to the different parking brake band, see if you can find a truck in a salvage yard with all the parts intact and buy the whole works, even if you have to buy another parking brake drum, hope that helps.

What size Band did you get? Each transmission uses a different size.

The GM 4-speed had a 8" x 2-1/2" drum.

The New Process 4-speed had a 9-1/2" x 2-25/32" drum.

The Spicer had a 9-1/2" x 3-1/8" drum.

The Clark had a 10-1/32" x 3-13/32" drum.

Do you still have the rear bearing retainer plate on the back of the transmission? It will have the mounting bars cast on it the hold the band in place.

As 3B stated, all of the attaching parts are different so you need to find a complete unit to get everything you need.

I must have the spicer, the drum is 3 1/8" wide by about 9 1/2". The transmission has a shaft coming out the back for the brake shoe to swivel on. The band that I just got is 9 1/2" ID. It has a flat bar connected to it that must bolt to the transmission somewhere.
