When I got my 1954 Belair, in the trunk was a treasure box full of parts...wiper motor, 6volt radio (that works), dome lights, and parts for the horn ring. I have the horn ring, three plastic sleves, the springy thing and it's sleve, a plastic disc with three groves on the edge, and three screws...how the heck does it all go together? Thanks for any help. There is a spring too, but which side of the steering wheel does it fit, in the column (back side) or in the front???

Welcome fellow sedan-er. I've also got a '54 BelAir, 235 w/3speed and torque-tube. I'm building a motor now.

Disconnect the battery before installing the horn ring stuff, cuz the horn will randomly blow during assembly. The springy-thing and its sleeve goes in first. The sleeve fits into a hole in the center of the steering wheel. Drop the springy thing into the sleeve next. The plastic ring and the flat spring washer go in next. I don't remember if the flat spring sits above or below the plastic spacer. (I think below, but its been awhile) Then the horn ring goes on. The three sleeves fit into the horn ring screw holes. Then screw the ring on evenly, but not all the way down. Its assembled correctly when you can press the horn ring and feel it spring back when you let it go. Next, stick your finger in your ears and reconnect battery. Get back in car and test horn. If no horn, disassemble and check. If the horn sticks, pull the battery cable off and check assembly. Pop the chevy emblem back in the center of the ring and you're done.

If you need some parts, I've got a few odds and ends laying around. National Chevy Association has most parts you'll need. You got any extra stuff? I could use some chrome trim, emblems, a rear bumper & gravel sheild, etc.
