The Carter w-1 on my '46 was really crudded up. I took it apart and gave it an over night swim in the carb cleaner bucket. It is supposedly recently rebuilt with lite usage, but a lot of sitting. upon reassembly the truck runs markedly better. There is still some lugging on acceleration though.
I look down the throat while pumping the gas pedal and the port where the acceleration pump discharges sprays the gas on one side of the barrel. Is it suppose to do this, or is it suppose to spray straight down the barrel? Thanks,
Scott

I'll check mine once I get to the shop. I just pulled one off my truck this weekend. It ran fine so I'll take a looksee and get back to you.

From what I know it deflects it onto the one side, then it falls into the manifold. If it were to go straight down into the tube, it would flood the engine right out. even under hard acceleration it would cause a bog.

Thanks y'all. I didn't know, and the pump wasn't even hooked up when I got the truck.

Mine appears to shoot straight down the tube to the butterfly.

Rick, thanks for checking that. I don't know which way is correct. I'm going to check timing and plugs next, and see where that takes me.
