on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 19 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 19 | Decided to upgrade my stock 1950 1/2T brake system, i've ordered the kit from CPP and am keeping my 6 lug pattern. I have a couple questions; Are my 16" stock rims going to fit? What happens to the emergency brake cable? The salesman mentioned I would have to modify a crossmember due to the 3 speed tran. Is this difficult? Thanks | | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 23 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 23 | I'm most of the way through my upgrade to a Canadian-built 1/2 ton pickup with the 3 speed using the CPP kit.
First of all, I'm doing brakes, tapered roller bearings, and a dual master cylinder upgrade (not power-assisted). So far, things have bolted together well, and I've just been collecting a few misc. parts to finish things off. If you're doing the dual master cylinder as well, you'll need a 9/16-18 inverted flare to 7/16-24 inverted flare adapter to connect the 1/4" rear brake line to the proportioning valve - I used NAPA's part # BK 6413309. While I'm at it, I'm replacing all the lines, as well as the rear wheel cylinders.
My stock wheels did not clear the callipers, so I'm going to need to go with something new. I'm leaning towards Wheelsmith's "Vintage" 16x6's, and I'll probably go with Michelin 215/85 x 16s or 225/75 x 16s.
Haven't any issues with the emergency brake cable.
I've got a few pages on my blog outlining what I've done so far, if that helps.

I also stayed with 6 lugs. I had the back of my hubs turned so they run true. I used '79 K10 rotors and '79 C10 calipers. I also upgraded to a 1 inch bore master cylinder without power boost.
My wheels are original 17 inch and there are no clearance issues. The emergency brake works the same but I had to make a new mount for the handle since i changed motor and tranny.
Difficulty is dependent on your ability to make the parts that can't be bought.
You can see photos of this on my photobucket.
Good luck! They do warn you though that may be the case on 47-50 trucks. Thats an added expense/decision I wasnt counting on, and am not sure I am ready to make...I have new 16"x6.5" bias plys and probably want a rim I can use those on, since they are new. Its a P.O.L. kit. Most kits do not come with very good instructions. I installed all new brake lines also. | | |
