The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Running board, splash shield, bed mounting order

My searches turned up scant results about the best order to remount these parts. It appears you can mount either the bed or running board first. My bed was mostly non-existent when I disassembled it 3 years ago so I am not positive how tightly these parts fit together. I thought it might be a little easier to mount the bed w/o the running boards in place. On the other hand I don't want to have to lift the bed to get the running board/splash shield in place.

Since I have the option to assemble these parts in any order what generally works best?

Do you have the fenders mounted on the bed? I would mount bed first. The splash aprons mount to the running board only. I would leave the rear fenders loose until you bolt up the running board.

Thanks for the responses. I plan to mount the rear fenders last. I understand how the parts mount. I just don't know how hard it is to get the running boards and splash shield on (without scratching or tweaking anything) with the bed in place. Since I usually work by myself I didn't want to have to raise the bed and try to slip the other parts in at the same time.

It sounds like putting the bed on first will work fine. If anything, my splash shield may be squashed a little from the previous bed "mounting". I tried to restore the curve as much as possible and had to weld on new tabs for the fender mount.

Chuck,It sounds like you're on the right track.
I didn't follow any guide books but found mounting the bed,then running boards with splash apron attached and finally the rear fenders was the way to go.
Trying to wiggle the running board and splash apron with the tab in with the rear fenders on is a surefire way to scratch up either the cab corner and/or the fender.

Don't ask how I know!
