| | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 94 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 94 | I was lookin for a new engine (235/261) for my 1956 chevy truck and came across a 235 from a 1954 gmc wit all new rings And bearings and runs really good as I watched the 54 in parades before. I was wandering if this motor would fit alright in my 56 or if there was any big differences as Im aware the 54 was the Earlier years of the 235 in trucks and I'm also wandering if the gmc engine would fit in place of the Chevy. And if it would fit ok is there any real differences in the motors themselves like horsepower, oils pressure etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated

It's cause the motor in my 56 is pretty tired and worn so I would like to just do a complete motor swap as it tends to be easier and cheaper

The fan will be further from the radiator so you might need a shroud. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | Only 1955 2nd series through 1959 will have the front side mount provisions needed for your 56.
BTW GMC did not use a 235 originally.

I'd look for a 56 or newer 235. It will be a higher compression and higher horsepower engine. Someone else will have to comment on the 56 and newer front/side motor mounts (on car/truck engines).
