The truck has plenty of power, brakes work very good, shifts fine, however the steering is still 1938.

Well how did it get the vent window? The only Chevy trucks with vent windows and pull down door handles are 51s.

Well was a good day. I finished welding the new exhaust pipe together & installed it. Also installed new muffler. Finished painting the inside of the cab. So will start installing all the interior in the next few days.

Jim,
You must be seeing the shelves in the background. It doesn't have vent windows. Take a look at the pics in my signature.
It actually has a set of aftermarket wind wings that my uncle put on when he was driving it to high school. I have never seen these on any other truck and will be reusing them when I get this project back on the road.

Dang close looking. I've seen any of those either. Next time you're taking pics take a close up of those.

Might be awhile until it's assembled. I'll try to get a few closeups of them off the truck in the next day or so.

I should of been working this morning but I decided to pull off the carburetor like you guys on the StoveBolt suggested. I made a blog post if you want to see photos. http://kens46truck.wordpress.com/2012/04/26/pulling-off-the-carburetor/

Raining today, so started work on the 261. Pulled the water pump off and found that the front of #1 cylinder still has paint on it. Probably a good indication of a rebuild? Very little carbon build up in cylinders. Tomorrow I'll drop the pan and pull the pistons.

Replaced my original valve cover and push rod cover. They were both leaking a bit. I need to straighten the original ones out and repaint them. Until then, a bit a 'summer' bling from my stock pile.

I also made a new fuel line. I still need to make up my vacuum line to go along with the fuel line.

That's about it for this round.

pass side
no name truck.

It was actually a few days back but I got my windlace rubbers installed on my A.D.
I had been avoiding this due to the fact it seems to feature high on the 'PITA' job list.

The first one took just over an hour, the second about 45 mins.
Not as bad as I'd feared but not something I want to do again any time soon!

Here's proof.

I also found out about the 'second' screw inside the interior door and window handles.
Now they're out the way I can get on with fabricating my door panels.
I'm planning on full covers rather than the original basic ones.

Still raining today, so inside working on the 261. Got the head off and dropped the pan. So far everything looks really good. Also got the shop cleaned up and a bit more organized.

Ever since I replaced my Rochester with the Carter YF the throttle linkage has been rubbing on the firewall and even sticking a bit. Its not a big job, but a few trips between the vice and the truck for test fits sure made a big difference. Cleaned up the linkage, filed a few rough spots, resulting in much better throttle response.

Now I need to tackle the front brakes, king pins, and get some new shocks.

Tired of the ticking and worrying, had a valve adjustment done, the 235 is smooth as silk. Also rewired the alternator which did the trick for a charging issue. The reunion with the southern bolters really recharged me to get going on "Norma Dame". I love my 52 more each day.

I trashed the speakers I had mounted on the back of the firewall and mounted new 3 way speakers on the stainless shelf behind the seat. Speakers
I wasn't happy with the tin can echo from the old ones caused by both the quality of the speakers and the location (without any inclosure). I had 2nd skin insulation under the shelf and the sound is 100 times better now. I drove it out to the trim shop to have carpet and headliner installed. Now 44 miles on odometer. I don't remember my 51 back in 69 riding so rough but I guess when you're only 26 your rear is numb.

Finally installed the seals around the hinges on the rear doors on my Sub. They have been laying in my parts bin for 2 years. Touched up some scratches on the right rear quarter and fender where some paint from the garage door found its way onto the Sub. Wonder how that happened. Checked and adjusted the toe in then went for a drive and filled it up at $3.72 a gallon. A good day except for the price of the gas.

Today I started fabricating my inner door panels with 3/16" marine grade plywood.
I've decided to make full height ones rather than the basic originals.
Plans are to cover them in an Oxblood colour leather, and unlike my bench seat I'll maybe have a go at these myself.

The Stovebolt Flagship ('49 3800) has started locking up the right rear brake coming out of the winter storage. Today, I pulled the wheel and drum -- Everything looked okay, so I just doused it with brake cleaner and sprayed a little WD-40 on the linkages (letting everything drip for about 30 minutes before I put the drum back on), put it all back together and took a test drive to the transfer station (where we take our trash) and everything worked as it ought to.

Yay for me -- I actually fixed something smile

Brake Cleaner and WD-40.... add some Duct Tape and Baling Wire and there's nothing you can't fix.

Yeah Buddy! The aircraft maintenance guys at work have taught me this over the years:

If it moves -- grease it.
If it doesn't move -- paint it.

If it's supposed to move and doesn't -- WD-40.
If it still doesn't -- BFH.

If it's NOT supposed to move and it does -- Duct tape it.
If it still moves -- epoxy it.
If it still moves, and it's metal -- weld it and then paint it.

And if it's not on your inventory form at all -- Deep six it!

smile

I got the flatbed mounted on truck. Hooked up all the wiring for the lights. The last week I finished putting all of the interior back inside the cab. Also reinstalled the new wiring harness & got everthing connected & working. I also installed all the glass except for the windshield(this week task). Almost ready for the road, waiting on the seat to get back from the upholster shop.

Got some work done on the exterior. I spent the better half of a hot and humid day basically wet sanding the exterior with CLR and Scotch-brite and then re-buffing it with chrome polish. Still needs a bit of work and I plan on repeating the entire process several more times but its getting there. Looks nice with the shine and a some reflections happening in the paint. ...the dark green is the original Juniper Green.

(will update w/pics of the tailgate asap)
