I have two holes under the speedo and the blank on a 55 burb carryall dash. I saw a pic of a finished truck and the left hole had a red lense and the right a green one. What are these and why does mine not have the lenses?

not sure why they'd be different colors, but there are two places with small arrow cutouts that are the dash signal indicators, usually green IIRC, with a cardboard tube behind that has the colored lense .... and then there's a small red jewel for the high beam indicator ... the 55's may not have the turn indicator inserts as I think that was the first year for the optional signals, but after that they all had them even if the signals weren't ordered .... and this isn't burb specific, all the trucks were the same, it's an electrical question

Thanks for the reply Bill. The turn indicators are on the actual turn signal lever assembly.
I will post my question over at the electrical forum.
There is a pic on my intro from the other day, in the welcome/ intro thread, if you want to see the holes I mentioned.
I appreciate the help.

Does it matter if it's a GMC and not a Chevrolet ?

I think this is about a 1955 Blue Chip GMC (late 1955)?

It helps to tell the brand in your post. It seems most people don't know GMCs have a different dash from 1954.

The left (red) one is for your high beam indicator. The right (green) one is for the turn signal indicator. Your switch with indicator lights is not a factory switch.

Cletis is correct. It is a GMC thing. You can replace the colored lens for these lights and the colored mylar around the gauges with Lighting "gels", as they are called. Amazon, for example, has four colors of 12" X 12" Gels for $7. Green and red are among them. On my 56 GMC 4X4 Restomod, I used a modern 4x4 lens/gel from a 80's Chevy 4X4 indicator and cut it to fit into the high beam light which was wired to the 4X4 lever switch. If you already have an add on turnsig, you can wire those GMC dash lights to indicate anything: backup, park, key on, 4x4, low on beer, etc.

It's my opinion, that you should wire them to the signal lights. You know, port and starboard, that way you'll be all set when on the ship, or in the flying machine. You'll also need one of those hats with scrambled eggs on the brim....Hahahaha.

One of my good friends is a Shipping Pilot, and when he's in the truck, he's often heard to remark "Hang a port, then in two blocks hard starboard and we dock".

It is my opinion you should wire them like the factory intended..
