If you are installing power steering those little steering wheels will be fine. If not, go for something with a bigger wheel or modify to use an original size steering wheel. As for a source, you need to look in the older vans for the bigger wheel.

I know you said " no aftermarket ", but you might want to check out Summit Racing - $ 235.00 for a new column is pretty good !

I don't knwo about the Cherokee but I had a 86 Grand Wagoneer and a large percentage of the parts AMC bought from other manufacturers. The steering column was Chevy, the motor was Chrysler via Ford. I always reminded me of that Johnny Cash song.

I used one out of a 94 Suberban. I used my original steering box. Bobed the box and the colume. Was some work but turned out nice. Steers the same.

I've seen them at most hardware/home improvement stores. I even have the Harbor Freight kit mentioned. I've never been able to find the large clutch head driver like what is used on your fenders. (sorry, the size escapes me)

Not in a AD but i used a column out of a 1987 monte carlo and it works nice. no problem with the small wheel on manual steering, only would be helpfull in a small parking space, i just park out a little bit and walk.
although in smaller old trucks i've found that a tilt is not really needed unless you are a "big, fluffy" kind of guy.in a car yes.
be carefull of Inexpensive or "cheap" aftermarket columns, some are for show and arent very good on the road. you get what you pay for.

Herb, I think someone already mentioned a chevy van. Not sure about the year but maybe early 80's that is the right length.

There have been mucho posts on this topic. I believe years ranged from the mid 70's into the 80's. I would check the archives here to be sure.
