I have a 46' Chevrolet Pickup with a 1954 235 engine. The lifters are in need of adjustment and I was wondering if they are solid or hydraulic on this year 235 engine. If it was a truck engine, they will be solid. If it was a '54 powerglide engine, they will be hydraulic. Not sure about the '54 standard tranny car 235, but I think they were hydraulic also.

Post the engine serial number and people can tell you what the engine originally had for lifters (this code is pressed into the block, just to the rear of where the distributor enters the block).
Prior to 1956, only 235 engines installed in cars with Powerglide transmissions had hydraulic lifters.
From 1956 onwards, all passenger car 235s had hydraulic lifters.
No truck 235s had hydraulic lifers, except perhaps late 235s in trucks with Powerglide transmissions (no one has yet found GM documentation to confirm/deny this).

Trucks had solids all the way to 61, and the switch to all hydraulics in passenger cars didn't happen until 56 or so. Check the stamped number behind the distributor to get an idea what your 235 was in originally.
