I have recently seen for sale somewhere (EBay, I think) a metal id tag giving the GVW of the truck. It was sold as a TF part. Are all trucks supposed to have that? And where does it go? My '57 Suburban does not have this tag, but it was repainted, so...

Many states used to require the GVW be posted on the side of trucks, and pick-ups were included. In my area is hasn't been required on light duty stuff for well over 25 years.

The Specifications Manual shows it placed between the hinges in the driver's door post.


It is often removed for a paint job or when someone registers it using a different code than the original (if the vehicle ID code was used for registration at that time in that state).
