What a ride! No plates, no inspection. Adjusted clutch, started truck (forgot to adjust clutch rod under dash. Good thing it stalled before putting a new door in rear of garage! So happy my rebuilt power steering works excellent. Out on the road wind in my hair, hhmmm something smells like it's burning, must be residue on pipes etc. Pull into friends house and combination smoke and steam fills cab. Jump out and open hood and pull off battery cable. Forgot to tighten valve cover, well oiled hood hinges! Radiator screaming, must have had an air gap when filling coolant. Fill coolant try to start truck, out of gas (gauge a little off). Get ride to station for gas, pour it in and crank it up. More wind in hair. Shift from second to third and shifter comes out of tranny and falls on floor! Jamb it back in and make it back to house and a few stiff drinks. This restoration stuff is such fun!!

The first ride is always good, even when it's bad. It gats you motivated as well, glad you are at that point. Good luck with the small stuff.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

It's not a ride, it's an adventure.

Awesome. I now have 500 miles on my 49 and am still working out the bugs. I just blew a lower rad hose pin hole leak. One of Jim Carter's. Anyway called Lisa and she sent me a new one for shipping cost. Still many small things to work through, just enjoy it and be thankful its not your only mode of transportation. :-)

Congratulations Mr. DThela sounds like you are having a great time.
Any day now i will be taking my 54 panel out for the first time in 35 years. I will be sure now to take a second look at things.
Good luck with it

I think we all have similar stories to tell about the first day out in our trucks. For myself, my first trip out the new coil was defective and left me in the middle of a busy intersection. Fixed that, then like pplummer, my new radiator hose from JC also had a pin hole, then etc.. but now I'm working on a shortlist of bugs I've found as I drive it. Now have 1300 miles, moxt of which have been uneventful.

That story just made my day. Adds fire under my own butt to get mine up and going (neighbors are well aware and already warned I may end up in their backyard on first driving attempt)
