Whereas before the resto, a rattle here or twenty more there, whatever. Now, my shifter rattling is bugging me. I have a rebuilt SM420 in my '50. Cuising along the shifter rattles. Is this just a function of a top loaded four speed, or is there something that can be looked at to fix, (short of putting baseball cap on it.)

Your transmission might quiet down after it has been in service a while.
