I've had my switch out once and now I can't remove the knob and shaft. If anyone has taken apart a switch, is there anything inside that would break or otherwise fall apart that would prevent the knob and shaft from being removed? I've tried turning the knob. I have permanent dimples in my thumb from trying to depress the release button.

If its like a 59 it has a round shaft with a flat side. I pull mine out to have the headlites on .Then push that button on top of the switch. Turn the shaft alittle to free it up and it should come out. That said I have had some new switches be more difficult due to fit problems. Good luck
Also the piece in the switch is a rectangle with a hole in the center .It slides in a gruve but the button you push is off center so it doesnt push down square. wear and rust can bind it. If you can rotate the sw assy 90 deg it may move better.
