I have a 56 chevy truck and im having a hard time getting good workable front fenders. | | | | Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 693 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 693 | My opinion is steel. i wouldn't put fiberglass on my truck but that's just me. others no doubt have perfectly valid opinions to the contrary.
The repro stuff isn't bad, it can surely be made to fit. Another approach is to find good used fenders and patch the front face, eyebrow and/or lower rear where they tend to rot. | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 785 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 785 | Having worked on a C1 Corvette, it is rare to find one that has maintained it's shape over the years. Where the quality standards were not what you expect today when they left the factory, there is still quite a bit of distortion that takes place from sitting in the sun, etc. I'd think that the steel would be a better choice based on this aspect alone. | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | the fit will be about the same, either will take some fiddling, maybe more for the fiberglas because the repro 5-9 steel ones around now are pretty good .... the only reason to prefer fiberglas over steel is if it's for a daily driver in a cold/wet climate
