I drove my '51 burb down to Emerald Isle NC yesterday from Raleigh, and on the way the generator bearing or bushing started to squall something something awful.

I think it is a simple job to R&R the genny, but I don't have my books with me and have limited tools.

I believe I can get the parts locally.

Can someone give me the basic procedure to break down the generator and tools needed?

Also, is there one bearing and one bushing, or two bushings thanks.

I am on cell phone internet, but I did find someone that will let me use their computer.

I got the generator off and apart. The rear bushing is shot. The little cover that goes over the oil reservoir had come off and was rattling around in the generator. No telling how long it has been since this bushing has been lubricated. Anyway, it is shot. The brushes are also real shot.

I found a flaps that said they could have these parts in this afternoon.

Problem now is that I see no way to get the bushing out. It is pressed into the cover.

This is a generator from a '53 car, by the way.

I might just put the brushes in and fill the bushing with grease for the ride back to Raleigh.

Got the bushings, bearings and brushes from CarQuest and the good folks at the Morehead store also had a machine shop and were able to cut the old bushing out and press the new one in.

Looks like I am good to go.
