Rebuilding a 53 235 Powerglide engine. Bored .020 over, Patrick 254 cam, Offy 1034 manifold, 2 identical 483s W-1 carbs, Fenton headers. I'm one county over from you, so same elevation.

Question: what would be the best needles to use in the W-1s, for best streetability?

We suggest ALWAYS starting with the stock configuration. This way you have a repeatable "baseline".

Do you have any heat to the intake?

Jon.

Good carburetion is fuelish hot air
The most expensive carburetor is the wrong one you attempt to modify.

I'm planning on running water heat to the manifold. The engine is dissassembled in my shop right now, it will be heading to the machine shop soon. Getting the parts together and planning the build.

Sounds like a fun project.

Incidentally, the cheapest horsepower you can buy would be to replace the powerglide with a manual transmission.

Ah, you see, the engine is destined for my sons 1945 truck, with 4 speed manual transmission. I only call it a Powerglide to indicate it is a pressure oiler. In 1953 only the Powerglide motors had the new oiling system.

I'll be using mechanical lifters as well.
