You could look around for a 292 (it is basically a stroked 250 in a taller block) They made them until mid 80's and they had a removable intake still and can be real stump pullers to with a little work. I remember driving some pre smog 292's in late 60's and early 70's and they were very strong running motors then. BTW, the land cruiser has a GM motor because when GM came out with new generation 6's with 194/230/250/and 292 in mid 60's, GM sold the old 235/261 and all its rights to Toyota and though they modified it a lot over the years, a 71 was pretty much a stock "stove bolt" GM 6

Will this work? anybody else heard of it?

A friend once told me that the WWII 235 engines of trucks left behind, were copied by the japanese and used against us during the war.

Has any asian country ever paid for rights to reproduce anything?
It seems they just copy everything regardless.
And the quality is not always as good as the original.

GM actually split where the 235 went. Toyota did aquire manufacturing rights from GM, I think they useed it up to somewhere in the late '70s in the Land Cruiser. I'm not sure just how much changes that Toyota made to it, though, or what parts wil directly swap. Somehow, I got a bad feeling alot of it got changed out to metric  .
The other place that got the 235, and used it for many years, was GM do Brasil, which is the Brasil subsidiary of GM. They also got the stamping dies for the '54 cabs, and used them for many years, too.
