Yahk is that quaint town half way between Cranbrook and Creston along Hwy 3. Give it a few years (perhaps 10 more)and we might retire there. Until then, we've been slowly renovating and lightly developing the property.... and enjoying the heck out of it. Till then, I'm still in Calgary 3/4 of the year. Here's the 'new' truck; it's a 1951 Chevrolet COE: It is going to rest where it is, on a farm in Saskatchewan for a while until I complete my current project and plan this trucks new life. I am likely going to do a chassis swap onto a 1989 Chevrolet 3/4 ton truck I have that is in awesome mechanical condition. I also bought a 1949 Chevrolet pick up to get the 9 foot box to use on the COE: As you can see, I still need rear fenders. (A little help anyone???) AND finally... a grain truck to get the visor and other bits 'n' pieces: If you see any parts on this grain truck you need, Let me know. Buying from remote farms in Saskatchewan is extremely cost effective! Not convenient.... but cheaper.
My wife's family all farm in west central Alberta, so I shop near and west of there. If I find something North west of the farm it is going to be passed over by most guys as being 'too far', but as a side trip from the in-laws farm it might just be a day trip for me.
As an added bonus, it provided a 'father / son in-law' experience if my father in-law, Tom, comes along.
I'm excited to get started, but I'm still learning, planning and gathering parts.

Now, can you do something about those exhorbitant gas prices you fellas in Alberta are charging !? I with you on the gas prices.... they're spanking me too. I LOVE road trips and my vintage cars are 'OK' on gas, but they're not exactly getting 40 mpg. If a provincial political party runs on a 'cheaper gas' platform I'll be all over it. Other than that... well.... the powers that be don't seem to listen to me. I have always wondered if BC adds another layer of tax onto the gas? The cost of transporting the gas into BC can't be the reason for such a dramatic increase. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,997 Big Bolt Forum Co-moderator | | Big Bolt Forum Co-moderator Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,997 | I just got back from Japan yesterday and noticed the $1.44.9 gas on the way home. However, I filled up in Silverdale are of Mission for $1.27.9. That's like saving over $10 a tank. There aren't that many layers of taxes on gas. Obrien1952gmc, I doubt I will bring any parts trucks to Yahk until I live there full time. I would worry too much about vandalism & theft to feel comfortable leaving them there. Besides, I have access to the in-law's family farm which is a terrific place to store parts trucks.
If my plan to retire in Yahk happens in the future I will find / rent / build a garage space there. Until then, my garage in Calgary will be my primary working space.
None the less, I don't sit still easily, so I started building a small workshed in Yahk that I will complete this spring. This will be a place where I can bring small pieces (carb, gauges, etc) out there to work on in the shed.

Nate Hey Nate, I constantly search the local classifieds and haven't seen much. The guy I bought this one from had a 1956-ish GMC COE and a 50's International COE when I bought mine. He's a retired trucker who goes to farm and equipment auctions to buy things for re-sale. He bought these three trucks from a trucking company auction. His adds aren't there anymore so I assume he sold them. Might wait till next month though as I'm looking at buying a '63/64 Caddy for the lil woman this week if I find one in good enough shape. If I don't get the Caddy this week, then I'll look into the other COE I found sooner than later. Would love add one of them to the fleet I'm trying to grow again.
Nate | | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 32 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 32 | $1500 is MUCH more reasonable.
Paying $2500 each for cabs with bent fenders, mandatory purchase of two of them, and the typical hidden rust in addition to the holes shown in his '20 foot away' pictures.... No, I don't think so.
However, biding our time while his price 'sobers up' and then offering less than half his price might be worth pursuing.
So.... tell us about the one you found?
Any pictures?

Just found another grain truck in rural nowhere; it's a 1949 Chevrolet. Farmer says it's a 2 ton. Not sure if it is the Canadian Chevrolet called a 'Maple Leaf' or not. I am trying to get more info from him.
Anyone else love chasing down parts trucks as much as I do?
It is the deluxe 5 window cab so my hope is that the window stainless is excellent.
Anyone looking for parts from one of these, I'll check for them when I look at the truck (Likely in 6 weeks when I am out visiting relatives in western, central Alberta (The truck would 'only' be a one day operation from there).

Gregger Yes, I agree. I found my beast south of Lethbridge and paid a small fortune to get it towed to the Shuswap... but I think it was a pretty good deal, even with the price of moving it. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,997 Big Bolt Forum Co-moderator | | Big Bolt Forum Co-moderator Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,997 | Hey Dubds10, I saw this COE on Saltspring last summer. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8Ibs2LFo3bs8CThe third picture in the album has the phone number. There's only one pic though, but I think that's cause you have to link the pic individually unless that's the only one. I'd deff buy that and build it though.

Susanne and I bought a 52 Chevy Coe off him a few years again and dragged it back to the mainland then sold it as it was fairly rusty throughout once I got into it. Thats the only problem of the island is all that salt air from the sea promotes rust.
