want to swap my 6 on 7.25" bolt pattern 1946 GMC front hubs to 8 on 6.5" to match the hubs on the 14 bolt rear end I have.Wondering what chevy hubs with that bolt pattern will fit on my GMC spindle,what years were interchangable if any or do i need to change the spindle to a chevy?

Probably most any 3/4 ton hubs will fit, those original hubs and artillery wheels that go with them are pretty desireable to someone.

The 46-52 had the same front spindle. The 53-59 was different. You may be able to obtaing a 3/4 or 1 ton hub and use an use an 8 lug front spacer. Theres a couple hub spacers on ebay right now from a D60 front axle. You may be able to adapt something like that also.

Thanks for the reply,please correct me if i am wrong but did they switch to bendix style brake setup after 1952? If so would I need to switch to a newer than '52 spindle to upgrade to bendix brakes from the huck setup?

I am pretty sure the spindles on my 51 1 Ton are only good for 1950 to 52. They kept Huck brakes on the 1 Ton and 3/4 Ton until 1952. In 1953 they went to Bendix.

I think you might want to pick up an entire front axle from a 53 or later.

You may be able to just use the later model spindle and kingpin on your axle. I just had a similar discussion with another member about my 54 and his 51. The Pre-53 had a 1.536" long kingpin and the 53-59 has 1.717". Get your tape measure out, if the mouth of the spindles match, then you're in business.

I'll second that, sounds like the best approach to me.
Also check kingpin diameter and if not the same you can usually make bushings to suit.

On a Huck Brake/Bendix swap, there may be no need to even swap spindles. All you do is drill out the top two holes on the spindle to 1/2" and bolt on the later style brake setup. I'm fairly sure the 3/4 ton would be the same. There's an article in the Tech Tip section on the subject.

Maybe all you need is a 46-52 8 lug hub and wheel spacer.

Thanks again for the feedback I finally got a chance to work on the truck today.I got a set of 1950 3/4 ton 8 lug hubs and 1956 3/4 ton Bendix brakes from some fellow stovebolters.I checked the fit on my spindals and everthing fit, I just had to trim about a 32nd of an inch off the top of the opening in the brake backing plate and drill out the two top holes to 1/2"as Whitedog had said.I,ll update again when I complete the install.

OK I drove the truck yesterday for the first time with new radial tires ,balanced, on strait rims.Wow what an improvement over the old stuff that had been sitting for probably 30 years in one spot.The Bendix brake upgrade made a huge improvement over the huck system.I highly recomend this update for the brakes short or a disc setup.Thanks once again for everyones input and help.Now I can start building the flatbed.
