The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot '60-'66 Trucks Gas Cap Color

I just bought a very nice original gas cap for my '65 C20 to replace my chrome aftermarket cap. Was it customary for the cap to be painted the color of the truck? I don't mind the "fatigued" look but I am wondering what is correct.

I remember them being painted the same color as the body and if it was a two tone paint job it would be the lower body and not the top half of the cab. I just looked at mine and like yours,it had been changed to a locking cap years ago and the original paint is showing under the old stock cap.

Thanks for responding Marc. I think you are right - I do believe the gas cap was the color of the body. You have a great truck there, really nice looking.

I agree. Although Chevy did have a chrome locking cap also that was an option.

Thank you for the photo. I will have my cap painted when I have some other painting done on the truck. I am doing body work now. What a gorgeous truck you have! Turquoise paint (I think) just like mine. I hope my truck looks that good when it is finished.

Cape65C20 I put a couple of pics on my photobucket to show an original painted cap. They were made by Eaton and had a ribbed edge. This one is the original glenwood green that my truck was painted in.
