Hi everyone. My name is Will Rochester, I am from Wolverine, MI. This is my first post here, I have been creeping around on the forums for a while now and just decided to register, and by the looks of it I am probably one of the youngest on the forum. I am just about to turn 20.

I just purchased my first bolt. It is a 1948 Chevy 3100 deluxe cab pickup. It has the 216 engine and 3 speed on the column. I found it on the side of the road over a year ago when I was on my way to college, and stopped to check it out, but the price tag on it was way too much for what it was, so I moved on. Fast forward to about a month ago I was driving down that same road again, and I noticed that the truck was still for sale, thinking "yeah no kidding someone would be crazy to buy it for the price that it was listed for." When I pulled over just to look at it once more I noticed that the owner had lowered the price by several thousand dollars, into a price range that I could not pass up purchasing it for. So I called the guy up, told him I wanted it, and went to pick it up the next day.

I found out that the truck had been in this area since new. It was owned by a farmer from Indian River, MI, which is about 10 miles from where I live now, and was the town I grew up in. The guy who I bought it from had gotten it from his father in-law who was about to send the truck to the scrap yard, but luckily saved it just in time. He sold it to me because he did not have the time, money, or energy to restore it.

The truck itself is in pretty rough shape, and is going to be a project that will take me a few years to get to where I want it to be. On the bright side though basically everything is there, as far as I can tell it has all of the original parts. The engine is seized up, the transmission will not come out of gear, and the interior, as well as the exterior, need to be completely re-done. Aside from all that I am very optimistic about the project! Also it came with the original owners manual, its '48 license plate, title with the original owners name on it, and the key still has the original leather key fob that it came with from the dealership.

My initial goals with this truck are to get it running and driving down the road safely! I want to keep it as original as I possibly can. I am keeping the original engine and transmission. I want it to be a driver, it will not be a trailer queen by any means. I want to drive down some back roads with it, take the dogs fishing, etc. The nostalgia of this truck is unlike anything else I can think of!

I had the girlfriend take as many pictures as she could to get most of the details so I will have some good before and after pictures to compare later on. I have a link to my Photobucket album with them all.

Welcome to the Bolt! Looks like you've got quite a project there. Do it in small steps. If you tear the whole thing apart at once, it'll be easy to get discouraged and you'll never get it done. So take one thing at a time and soon you'll get there. There's a lot of good help here, so don't be afraid to ask.

By the way--I don't know (or care) what you paid for it, but if the guy lowered the price by "several thousand dollars", he must have been asking pure gold to start out with!!

Welcome Will, awesome start to a great truck. Good advice by Rich, many get discouraged by biting off too much to start with. Keep us posted. Al

Thanks for the welcomes guys. I will be on here asking questions for a while I am sure.

Rich- Yeah he wanted a pretty penny for it, that is why I never contacted him about it. I am happy with what I ended up paying for it though, was worth every penny to me.

Al- Yeah I am going to focus on just getting it running right now, then I will dive deeper into it. I think projects are just attracted to me because I always have some lol
