restomoding my 56gmc vs keeping original quality.
when i look at what Tommy Douglas has done with his 56 engine in the gallery pics makes me think twice maybe thrice.
what are your choices?

I was always keeping my 56 with the intent of a restomod, but after 30+ years of waiting for $ to do it I decided that I wouldn't drive it any more if I did. I chose to keep it original, with body work still to come. I've got a buddy that was going to mod his 54 but has since changed his mind for the same reason. If $ is not an issue I might have done things different, but I've got to keep the minister of fiance happy.

| | | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 229 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 229 | i believe its the fun of building the truck that mimicks what you want to do. personally i am going restomod cause its more of a challenge for me. money is another concern but restomod takes longer so you have longer to pay for it i think. original is also fun and to restore original parts is exciting to see the before and after of each little step. you just got to consider everything when deciding money, talent, needs and time.

Get to know it and make notes of things you'd do different. You might be happy with the 235. It's really all you need in an old truck. I'd recommend power front discs. And an over drive transmission. Those kinds of mods can be done in a day or two and you're back to driving.
Lot's of people tear their trucks apart with dreams of their ideal hot rod, cream puff or whatever. A large percentage of them never get put back together. I think it's better to just do a little at a time while you drive it and enjoy it. | | |
