Hi,

my fuel gauge is always showing "full". I refurbished the whole instrument cluster, cleaned each single part and did all wiring new. When it was disassembled the gauge was at empty. Since I put it back into place it's at full. Nothing changes when I connect the wiring. Can someone help who knows this problem and/or how to solve it?

Best greetings
Joern

Open circuit (broken wire, bad connection, bad ground).

There is a break in the circuit from the gauge to the sender to ground.
- Check continuity between the gauge and the sender.
- Then, Check continuity between the sender "cap" (on the outside of the tank) to the ground (the frame, for example)

If continuity checks out, you might have a bad sender in the tank.

when i painted my tank (and cab floor) it prevented the tank from being grounded. the sender relies on the tank to be at chassis ground for the fuel gauge to work. if you did any work to this area, i would check your ground connections.

Ok, I then will check the ground. I am painting the cab floor and tank, first coat has just been applied. I hope it's the wiring so that I don't have to buy a new sender unit.

Many Thanks!

Hm, it's grounded. I checked all wiring, the brown from the sender to the dash, the little grounding cable at the sender connected to the cab, connection betwenn tank, cab and gauge. Everything's ok, but it still shows "full".

Pull your sending unit. Use a multi-meter and see if the ohms vary as the float is moved from one limit to the other. It should read ~30 ohms in the full position and ~0 in the empty. Ground the black lead to the body and put the red lead on the wire terminal. If you get the proper readings from the sending unit you have an open circuit you need to find.
